Match Review PM R16 (2) | Selangor FC 3–0 Kelantan TRW FC | AGG: 5–1 | Red Giants March into Malaysia Cup Quarter-Finals

Selangor FC advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the 2025/26 Malaysia Cup after securing a convincing 3–0 victory over Kelantan The Real Warriors FC in the second leg of the Round of 16 at MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya yesterday, completing a 5–1 aggregate win.

The Red Giants dominated proceedings from the opening whistle and broke the deadlock in the 19th minute through a swift attacking move involving new import Hugo Boumous, who surged forward before laying the ball to Zikri Khalili. His precise delivery found Chrigor Moraes, who calmly finished to give Selangor FC the lead. Continuous pressure paid off once again before the break when a long pass from Mohammad Abualnadi found Chrigor Moraes, who carried the ball forward before producing a clever through pass between the defenders for Faisal Halim to score in stoppage time, sending Selangor FC into half-time with a 2–0 advantage.

The match took a turn in the 61st minute when Harith Haiqal was shown a red card, forcing the Red and Yellow to play with ten men for the remainder of the match. Despite the setback, Selangor FC remained composed and continued to control the game. Just five minutes later, Mohammad Abualnadi was once again involved in the build-up before Chrigor Moraes capitalised on the opportunity to score his second goal of the match in the 66th minute, sealing a 3–0 victory and confirming Selangor FC’s place in the Quarter-Finals.

Making five changes in the line-up, Selangor FC Head Coach Kim Pan-gon expressed his satisfaction with the players’ performance and emphasised the importance of healthy competition within the squad.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate the players and thank the supporters for their tremendous support. This was an important win that secured our qualification to the next round, and overall I am satisfied with the team’s performance. The start of the match was not exactly as planned, with ball movement being a little slow and some positional issues, but I understood the situation as there were five changes to the starting line-up. Some players lacked match minutes and needed time to adapt. After the first 20 minutes, the team showed a clear improvement,” explained Kim Pan-gon.

“For me, it is important to create stronger and healthier competition within the squad. Some players need to work harder to reach the same level as the regular starters, as internal competition is vital in building a strong club. The upcoming matches will be more challenging, especially against teams like Imigresen FC and Negeri Sembilan FC, who deserve full respect. We are aware that there is still a lot of work to be done in our preparation to face them,” he added.

From yesterday’s #SFCTRW Malaysia Cup encounter, several key takeaways stood out:

Chrigor Moraes on Target – The Red Giants striker opened his Malaysia Cup account with a brace (19’, 66’), taking his overall tally to 28 goals this season.

Strong Contributions from Mohammad Abualnadi – The left-back played a key attacking role, contributing to two goals, including his first assist of the 2025/26 season for the team’s third goal in the 66th minute.

Encouraging Debut for Hugo Boumous – New signing, Hugo Boumous impressed on his first appearance, dictating play in midfield and playing a role in the opening goal with an accurate forward pass to Zikri Khalili in the build-up.

Credit must also be given to all players, including the midfield and defensive units, for collectively managing the game and ensuring Selangor FC progressed to the Quarter-Finals of the 2025/26 Malaysia Cup with a clean sheet in the Round of 16 second leg. Every player involved, including those not named in the matchday squad, plays an important role within the team.

Next, the Red Giants will host Cong An Ha Noi FC at MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, for Matchday Four of the Shopee Cup™ 2025/26 on 28 January, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00pm. Tickets are available here.

Selangor FC management would like to extend sincere appreciation to the 5,100 supporters who filled MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya with their passionate support last night. See you again next week.
